Engaging on Appliance Efficiency Policy

The Energy Policy and Conservation Act, passed in 1975, and subsequently amended, gives the Department of Energy (DOE) the authority to set minimum efficiency standards for all covered appliances, including many natural gas-fired appliances.

Unfortunately, recent standards appear to be promoting fuel switching from gas to electricity, which is less efficient on a full-fuel cycle basis.
