ENERGY STAR

Recently, changes to the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) ENERGY STAR have been proposed. ENERGY STAR is voluntary, but many consumers utilize this data when selecting an energy efficient appliance. APGA is concerned that EPA, through proposed changes to the ENERGY STAR program, is likely to limit innovation, risk energy resiliency, and squander existing energy infrastructure efficiencies.

ENERGY STAR should not promote full electrification. Furthermore, the program should consider full-fuel cycle emissions, not only look at site emissions. If the EPA were to finalize a program that promulgates such policies, it could actually have impacts contrary to our country’s decarbonization goals.
