APGA Sends Support Letter for CEWD to the Department of Labor

By Sydney Novoa posted 18 days ago

APGA sent the Department of Labor (DOL) a letter of support for the Center for Energy Workforce Development (CEWD) and their collaborators in their application for the Apprenticeship Building America, Round Two – Tier 3 grant.

APGA supports the creation of the Clean Energy Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP) Center of Excellence to provide much needed leadership in creating pathways to highly skilled occupations. This leadership will be provided by establishing and expanding Registered Apprenticeship opportunities within the industry.

With projected sector hiring demands of 22 million individuals over the next 10 years and the need to train people for increasingly technical and dynamic energy jobs, many energy employers are recognizing the value of DOL’s RAPs. Expanding RAPs to support career pathways is a necessary solution to workforce planning within the energy sector. However, this approach requires engagement from employers, unions, educators, and other critical stakeholders. Since utilities and contractors often lack the expertise or resources to develop these programs on their own, they would advance by working with individuals who understand their business and can guide them appropriately. CEWD’s Clean Energy RAP Center of Excellence would establish this type of model.
APGA will continue to work on this issue and will inform members of any future actions. For questions on this article, please contact Sydney Novoa of APGA by phone at 202-464-0834 or email at snovoa@apga.org
