APGA Requests A Seat at the Table for Any Potential Gas-Electric Coordination

By Renée Lani posted 04-15-2021 01:52 PM

On April 15, APGA submitted comments in response to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's (FERC) request for comments regarding its upcoming technical conference discussing climate change and extreme weather impacts on electric system reliability.

FERC posed several relevant questions on the topic, including whether any changes can be made to gas-electric coordination to help improve electric system reliability. APGA, through its comments, emphasizes the importance for FERC to engage with our members and other gas industry stakeholders if it decides to pursue any changes to the existing coordination scheme. A copy of APGA's comments is available here.

APGA has previously engaged in efforts to further gas-electric coordination, such as by working with other stakeholders through the North American Energy Standards Board (NAESB) at the direction of FERC. Our members support reasonable measures to enhance gas-electric coordination, provided that such measures do not unnecessarily diminish the quality of firm transportation service or impose additional costs upon our members with no additional benefits. As not-for-profit distribution companies serving their communities, APGA member systems want to ensure that any changes in gas-electric coordination guarantee that service to high-priority residential and commercial consumers is protected.

The American Gas Association’s (AGA) support of this position is also indicated in our comments.

FERC will hold a technical conference on this matter on June 1 & 2 from 1-5 PM ET. For more information on the technical conference, please go here.
