APGA Congratulates Transportation Secretary Duffy
Washington, D.C. (January 28, 2025) – The American Public Gas Association (APGA), representing more than 730 communities across the U.S. that own and operate their retail natural gas distribution entities, issued the following statement upon the confirmation of the Secretary for the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT):
“APGA congratulates Mr. Sean Duffy on his confirmation as Transportation Secretary. We appreciate Secretary Duffy’s acknowledgment of the hard work by pipeline operators of all sizes to ensure the safety and reliability of the infrastructure they maintain. During his confirmation hearing, he agreed that pipelines are one of the safest modes of surface transportation.”
“APGA looks forward to working with Secretary Duffy to advance our DOT advocacy priorities, including:
· Practical and cost-effective implementation of recently passed pipeline safety reauthorization laws by the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA);
· Ensuring that federal pipeline safety regulations are focused on safety; and,
· Continued investment in the replacement and maintenance of the nation’s pipeline infrastructure by supporting Federal programs to replace aging infrastructure and implement sensible permitting policies, so as to ensure sustained safe operations and reliable delivery of natural gas to customers.”

These public gas utilities are not-for-profit retail distribution entities that are owned by, and accountable to, the citizens they serve. They include municipal gas distribution systems, public utility districts, county districts, and other public agencies that have natural gas distribution facilities
