APGA Meets with DOE CESER Leadership

On July 7, APGA staff met with leaders from the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Cybersecurity, Energy Security, and Emergency Response (CESER). The discussion centered around the Policy Resolution, “Commitment to Security and Reliability,” which was approved by the APGA Board of Directors in May and is up for approval by the membership next week. This resolution states the following aims that APGA members hope to see from engagements with regulators and legislators: flexibility and scalability in achieving performance objectives; appropriateness and harmonization of reporting requirements; bi-directional information sharing; confirmation of information protection.

The CESER team was very appreciative of APGA staff sharing this Policy Resolution and explaining ongoing cybersecurity and physical security challenges given the unique aspects of public natural gas utility operations. They were more than willing to support, even possibly using some recent grant funding allocated to DOE for improving cybersecurity activities at utilities. APGA staff will continue to engage CESER with support from the APGA Security Task Group.
