Late last week, in a letter to the House and Senate Committees on Appropriations, APGA, along with many of our members and others in the natural gas industry, asked for increased research and development (R&D) funding. If appropriations are allocated and R&D is completed, APGA’s members would benefit, as more money was requested to further methane emissions mitigation technologies, natural gas vehicle research, and innovations to utilize more renewable natural gas (RNG) and hydrogen. One specific request was for more federal investment in RNG, which is needed to ensure that it can be produced more efficiently and continue to be delivered safely to American homes and businesses. In addition, hydrogen shows great promise as another low-carbon fuel for harder to decarbonize uses, such as manufacturing and heavy-duty transport. More R&D is needed, though. With innovation, existing energy infrastructure can be leveraged to provide access to low-carbon fuels.APGA and the signatories urged Congress to support R&D investments that will result in new public gas utility jobs, enhanced energy independence, and effective use of our members' resources, such as their resilient infrastructure and competent workforce. APGA appreciates our members who signed on to bolster natural gas R&D efforts.
