Publicly-owned and community-owned natural gas operators can now apply for the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration's (PHMSA) Natural Gas Distribution Infrastructure Safety and Modernization (NGDISM) Grant Program. In 2023, PHMSA plans to distribute $392 million to publicly- and community-owned natural gas systems to repair or replace gas distribution pipeline systems and purchase methane emission mitigation technologies.

The application can be found at www.grants.gov/web/grants/view-opportunity.html?oppId=348316 and you must have a GRANTS.GOV login to apply. The program will fund the repair, replacement, and rehabilitation of existing pipeline infrastructure, in addition to certain equipment purchases. The application period will close on July 24.

APGA will also host a virtual roundtable on June 27 at 2:00 PM ET on the application process and anything that has changed from 2022. This webinar is open to all publicly-owned and community-owned gas utilities regardless of current APGA membership status. APGA members can register for this webinar at www.apga.org/webinars, and non-APGA member utilities, contractors who work on grant applications with APGA members, or any state municipal association employee who does not have an APGA login should email info@apga.org to register.

APGA has a publicly available resource page with information on the Natural Gas Distribution Infrastructure Safety and Modernization Grant Program including past APGA webinar recordings, pre-application requirements, and information about the grant at www.apga.org/resources/phmsa-grant.
