Starting on August 11, join APGA for a six session webinar series on workforce development that is tailored for the community- and publicly-owned utility industry. The session topics were selected based upon the responses provided to the APGA Workforce Development Survey that was conducted during the month of April. The APGA Workforce Development Task Group strives to bring opportunities to members to share and hear best practices related to the toughest workforce challenges. This webinar series is just one of the sharing venues. Please save the dates and join us!

Series Schedule:
  • Aug 11 at 2:00 PM ET on On-Boarding of New Employees: New employees can bring a renewed energy to your workforce. But how do you ensure they are knowledgeable on your system and the tasks they are performing? APGA members have taken various approaches to addressing this challenge. Hear from peer member systems about the programs they have put in place to onboard new employees.
  • Aug 18 at 2:00 PM ET on Recruitment Efforts: Identifying and recruiting a skilled workforce can be challenging for any organization. Hear some of the innovative and interesting ways peer member systems are attempting to attract the best and brightest.
  • Aug 25 at 2:00 PM ET on Retention Tactics (For larger APGA member systems): You recruited the best and brightest, but how do you make sure they stay? From benefit packages to creating a positive and welcoming work environment to ensuring individual development, member systems are working hard to keep their employees. Learn about some of the retention tactic programs peer member systems have put into place.
  • Sep 1 at 2:00 PM ET on Industry Partnerships (For APGA members with less than 2,000 customers): Providing your employees with access to relevant, necessary training at an affordable price can be a challenge - especially for smaller operators. However, there are several industry partners that may be able to assist. Learn how you may be able to partner with your vendors, business partners, state associations, and contractors for training opportunities. Additionally, there may be nearby peer gas systems that may have additional capacity in their training sessions for your staff.
  • Sep 8 at 2:00 PM ET on Employee Development: You might ask what happens if you invest in developing your employees and they leave. But, what happens if you don't invest and they stay? From providing cross-training opportunities to formalized knowledge transfer programs, hear what some peer member systems are doing for employee development.
  • Sep 15 at 2:00 PM ET on Community Partnerships: Your next potential employee might be a current student at a local community college, union hall, or even high school. The challenge is making a connection. Hear how some utilities are building relationships with local schools, unions, and job placement centers to find their greatest asset - their workforce.
