On January 28, the APGA Board of Directors unanimously approved recognizing Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS) and Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) with APGA Legislative Recognition Awards for their efforts to introduce and pass the Making Pipelines Accountable to Consumers and Taxpayers (MPACT) Act. The awards were presented to the Senators on January 29 as part of APGA’s Legislative Summit. You can view photos of the awards being presented to Sen. Blumenthal & Sen. Hyde-Smith on APGA's X account, Facebook page, and LinkedIn page.Current federal law does not allow federal regulators the authority to protect natural gas consumers the same way they can protect electric consumers that have overpaid for the cost of transporting energy. The MPACT Act would amend the complaint section of the Natural Gas Act to allow the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to grant customer refunds, in the same manner FERC can order refunds to electric customers under the Federal Power Act, when it has been found that an interstate pipeline rate has been unjust and unreasonable. In addition to the award presentation, APGA members participated in over 80 meetings with members of Congress and their staff as part of the Legislative Summit. The Legislative Summit is held annually in Washington, D.C. as part of the winter Board of Directors and committee meetings. The 2026 Legislative Summit is scheduled for January 28 and 29. We hope you will make plans to attend!
