APGA Staff Participates in Pipeline SMS Meeting

On December 7, APGA staff participated in a meeting on Pipeline Safety Management Systems (Pipeline SMS). Representatives from oil and natural gas pipeline companies, as well as staff from the major energy trade associations, met to provide updates on Pipeline SMS implementation.

The compiled survey results that several APGA members completed were used to show the positive progress of public natural gas utilities. This data will be combined with similar responses from liquids and natural gas transmission pipeline operators, as well as from investor-owned utilities. An industry annual report will tell the progress of Pipeline SMS to the public and policymakers through these statistics collected, as well as from operator anecdotes, including from APGA members. When that report is available, APGA staff will inform the members.

Recognizing Pipeline SMS is a journey, the group that met in December will be working in 2022 to help operators in all elements of the energy pipeline industry appropriately progress further. Be on the lookout for APGA webinars or industry-wide events, as well as other efforts.

APGA members are always encouraged to view the APGA Pipeline SMS Webpage and the Industry Pipeline SMS Webpage.
