Request for Extension of the Comment Period Regarding DOE’s Energy Conservation Program: Energy Conservation Standards for Consumer Clothes Dryers, EERE-2014-BT-STD-0058, RIN 1904-AD99, 87 Fed. Reg. 51734

On October 19, APGA submitted a joint request to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), asking the agency for more time to provide feedback on the agency’s proposed minimum appliance efficiency standards for consumer clothes dryers.  The American Gas Association (AGA) also joined the request.

The joint request was in support of a similar request from the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM).  DOE published the NOPR in the Federal Register on August 23, 2022, providing a 62-day comment period.  During that time, AHAM requested additional data and further time to review the data.  Eleven days before the end of the comment period, DOE released the data but denied to extend the comment period.  APGA’s own extension request raises many of the same concerns put forward in earlier letters to DOE asking for more time to respond to the lengthy Furnace Rule proceeding, such as the need for DOE to adhere to its own policies.  If DOE does not grant the extension, comments are due on October 24, 2022.

APGA will continue to weigh in on DOE’s appliance efficiency rulemakings that impact gas-fired appliances, as our members provide the energy needed to fuel these appliances, thus making public gas systems critical stakeholders in these rulemakings.
