Regulatory Submissions

On July 31, APGA submitted comments to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) in response to a request for feedback on its recent Future of Building Energy Codes Workshop, which was held on June 22 and 24. APGA members are stakeholders engaged in the development, implementation, and enforcement of building energy codes; accordingly, the comments explained that building energy codes must remain flexible enough to be utilized by the broadest range of jurisdictions. This flexibility should also maintain the option for consumers to choose energy solutions that best fit their budgets and lifestyles, including clean, affordable, reliable, and resilient natural gas.

The workshop focused on federal decarbonization priorities, which included discussions of efforts to encourage the adoption of building energy codes that require electrification as well as other net zero energy and/or net zero carbon provisions. APGA’s comments cautioned against misguided electrification proposals that put “all eggs in one basket” because of the potential to negatively impact energy resiliency and affordability for many consumers.
