APGA Requests Continued Conversation on our Country’s Infrastructure

Washington, D.C. (June 7, 2023) – Today, the American Public Gas Association (APGA), representing more than 730 local, municipally owned natural gas systems in 38 states, issued the following statement days after the  signing of H.R. 3746, the Fiscal Responsibility Act:

“APGA commends Congress and the President for passing and signing into law the Fiscal Responsibility Act, helping avert a default on the country's debt and implementing some provisions to reform the current energy permitting process. These permitting reforms are a first step toward fixing an obstacle-riddled process that has stifled investments in America’s energy infrastructure and increased energy costs for APGA members, and ultimately, the American people who rely on accessing cost-effective and reliable energy in their homes.

While this legislation is a great first step forward, the work is just getting started. APGA hopes Congress will continue to pursue more reforms to streamline energy permitting and further lower energy costs, which include vital reforms to Section 5 of the Natural Gas Act. This would create parity for electric and gas consumers and produce savings for APGA members that would be passed on directly to their customers in the form of lower energy bills. APGA's members need these reforms to continue to provide customers with affordable and reliable natural gas.”
