APGA Congratulates PHMSA Administrator Roberti

Washington, D.C. (September 18, 2025) – The American Public Gas Association (APGA), representing more than 730 communities across the U.S. that own and operate their retail natural gas distribution entities, issued the following statement upon the confirmation of the Administrator for the Department of Transportation (DOT) Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA):

“APGA congratulates Paul Roberti on his confirmation as the PHMSA Administrator at the Department of Transportation. We appreciate and echo the sentiment he shared at his confirmation hearing that the reliability and safety of pipeline systems are critical for American homes and businesses. Administrator Roberti has a long history advocating for pipeline safety both during his time as Chief Counsel of PHMSA and as a Commissioner of the Rhode Island Public Utility Commission.

“APGA looks forward to continued engagement with Administrator Roberti and DOT PHMSA on sound regulations and programs that enhance pipeline safety across the nation.”

APGA is the national association of municipally and publicly-owned local distribution systems. There are about 1,000 public gas systems serving more than 6 million customers. These public gas utilities are not-for-profit retail distribution entities that are owned by, and accountable to, the citizens they serve. They include municipal gas distribution systems, public utility districts, county districts, and other public agencies that have natural gas distribution facilities.
