APGA Comments on OHSA’s Heat Injury and Illness Prevention Rule (January 14 2025)

On January 14, APGA jointly submitted comments with the American Gas Association on the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) Heat Injury and Illness Prevention rulemaking.

In August 2024, OSHA published a proposed rule for Heat Injury and Illness Prevention in Outdoor and Indoor Work Settings. If finalized, the rule would apply to “all employers conducting outdoor and indoor work in all general industry, construction, maritime, and agriculture sectors where OSHA has jurisdiction.”  The rule proposed requirements for employers to develop a heat injury & illness prevention plan, and implement specific actions if a heat hazard has been identified.

The majority of the association comments focus on seeking some clarification of OSHA’s proposals as well as ensuring flexibility and scalability of the requirements that are especially unique and important to local gas distribution companies.

The future of this rulemaking is very uncertain given the change of administration. As APGA becomes aware of the Trump Administration’s intention for this rule, APGA will share that with members.
