APGA Celebrates the Introduction of Bipartisan Pipeline Safety Infrastructure Bill

Washington, D.C. (September 16, 2025) – The American Public Gas Association (APGA), representing more than 730 communities across the U.S. that own and operate their retail natural gas distribution entities, issued the following statement in response to the bipartisan introduction of the American Energy Security Act of 2025, which authorizes an important pipeline safety infrastructure replacement grant program for publicly- and community-owned natural gas distribution systems.  

“APGA applauds Senator Jon Ossoff and Senator Bill Cassidy for their introduction of bipartisan legislation that would authorize the Department of Transportation to administer a federal grant program for the repair or replacement of aging natural gas distribution pipelines owned by municipally and community-owned natural gas systems.

Natural gas distribution infrastructure serves homes, schools, and small businesses. S. 2713 ensures continued federal investment in replacing these aging local pipes. Modernizing this infrastructure helps ensure safe and reliable delivery of natural gas to the millions of Americans that are served by the nearly 1,000 public natural gas systems across the country.”

These public gas utilities are not-for-profit retail distribution entities that are owned by, and accountable to, the citizens they serve. They include municipal gas distribution systems, public utility districts, county districts, and other public agencies that have natural gas distribution facilities
