APGA Applauds Passage of the Save Our Gas Stoves Act
Washington, D.C. (June 14, 2023) – Today, the American Public Gas Association (APGA), representing more than 730 local, municipally owned natural gas systems in 38 states, issued the following statement in response to the House’s passage of H.R. 1640, the Save Our Gas Stoves Act:
“APGA applauds the passage of H.R. 1640, the ’Save Our Gas Stoves Act’ championed by Representative Debbie Lesko (R-AZ). Through bipartisan agreement, members of the House underscored the importance of protecting consumers’ ability to choose which cost-effective cooking products best meet their household’s budget and individual needs. We encourage members of the Senate to take up this important legislation and protect Americans’ access to cooking appliances fueled by affordable, efficient, and reliable energy.
H.R. 1640 will prohibit the finalization, implementation, or enforcement of the proposed Department of Energy rulemaking, the “Energy Conservation Program: Energy Conservation Standards for Consumer Conventional Cooking Products.” This rule would eliminate or restrict cooking features that Americans appreciate and prefer — including shorter cooking times, simmering burners and continuous grates. APGA’s members are critical stakeholders in delivering affordable, efficient, and reliable energy in American homes and stand by this legislation.
