APGA-APPA letter to CFTC re investigation into natural gas price spikes

04-01-2021 12:22 PM

On March 26, APGA sent a letter with the American Public Power Association (APPA) to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), requesting an investigation into the high natural gas prices experienced in the central U.S. over President’s Day weekend as a result of Winter Storm Uri.

Similar to the letters APGA sent to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and the Department of Energy (DOE) in February and Congress recently, the letter to CFTC details the challenges public utilities have faced as a result of the historic natural gas prices and requests an evaluation of whether any wrong-doing took place in the markets. APGA staff remains a resource and continues to explore potential relief options for impacted members.
