President Issues Executive Order on Deregulation

By Sydney Novoa posted 02-06-2025 11:28 AM

On January 31, President Donald Trump signed an executive order titled "Unleashing Prosperity Through Deregulation." It mandates that federal agencies identify at least 10 existing rules, regulations, or guidance documents for repeal for every new regulation introduced.

This order underscores the administration's efforts to reduce federal oversight and regulatory burdens to spur economic growth. This executive order builds on Trump’s first term “2-to-1” policy, which required the removal of two regulations for each new one implemented.  The “2-to-1” policy reportedly achieved an average of five and a half regulations repealed per new rule introduced. Former President Biden rescinded the policy on his first day in office.

The executive order reaffirms the administration's commitment to lowering business costs and boosting economic growth. It states, "It is the policy of my Administration to significantly reduce the private expenditures required to comply with Federal regulations to secure America's economic prosperity and national security and the highest possible quality of life for each citizen."
