On October 19, APGA submitted a letter to the chairman and other commissioners of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to advocate for the expansion of the Mountain Valley Pipeline (MVP) Southgate Pipeline.
APGA members are directly and indirectly affected by the decision to expand the MVP Southgate Pipeline. Expansion of this pipeline will allow greater energy access to natural gas consumers in Virginia and West Virginia, boost economic growth, and ease capacity constraints on other existing infrastructure.
APGA’s letter responds to the misconstrued facts presented in a communication to FERC by the North Carolina Congressional members regarding the expansion of the MVP Southgate Pipeline. These policymakers are essentially promoting electricity as the single energy source solution. There were also unsubstantiated claims that natural gas cooking appliances worsen indoor air quality. APGA’s letter, which was also signed by the Carolinas Natural Gas Coalition (CNGC) and the Consumer Energy Alliance (CEA), provides FERC with the correct information and emphasizes the environmental and economic benefits of natural gas appliances in the home.
APGA urges FERC to reevaluate the MVP Southgate Pipeline expansion using scientific facts, rather than misguided views on electrification, which is a “one-size-fits-all” solution.
