Last week, APGA asked the Department of Energy (DOE) to clarify whether the notification of data availability (NODA) that it issued earlier this month is intended to revise the efficiency standards for gas ranges that the agency proposed in the spring.Earlier this year, DOE released a proposed minimum efficiency standard for consumer conventional cooking products, including gas stoves, which would have the effect, if finalized, of banning the majority of gas-fired ranges that are currently available on the market. APGA submitted comments in response to this proposal, requesting that DOE withdraw it. The NODA appears to update the potential efficiency levels for these products, but does not go as far as proposing new standards. Accordingly, APGA asked for clarification, as well as additional time to provide feedback. The American Gas Association (AGA), National Propane Gas Association (NPGA), and Spire also jointly submitted this request with APGA. A copy of the clarification and extension request letter is available here. For questions regarding on article, please contact Stuart Saulters of APGA staff by phone at 202-802-0493 or by email at ssaulters@apga.org.
