APGA Speaks on Panel During NARUC Meeting

APGA was part of a panel at the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) Winter Policy Summit. While only a handful of APGA members have direct oversight from their state commissions on rates, all utilities and its regulators want safe and secure infrastructure that delivers affordable energy. With this aligned goal, APGA staff highlighted the need for Section 5 reform, as well as public utility efforts to ensure cyber secure pipelines.  The attendees at the breakfast, which was organized by the Consumer Energy Alliance (CEA), were receptive to these APGA advocacy priorities. Hopefully, members of NARUC will further collaborate, possibly approving another resolution to support Section 5 reform, like what was done in 2020.

In addition to APGA, Bruce McKay, from Berkshire Hathaway Energy’s Gas and Transmission Storage division spoke. Bruce is a friend to APGA and has worked with many of the North and South Carolina public utilities. Another gentleman from Entergy also presented during this panel.

Daily Energy Insider covered this panel. Find their story here.

APGA staff believes it is valuable to represent members at these events before any natural gas value chain stakeholder and will continue to do so.  NARUC should know the importance of Section 5 reform, as well as all proactive APGA member efforts to ensure safe and secure assets. This panel was also a great chance to work with partners like CEA, Berkshire Hathaway, and Entergy to show that all in the supply chain are focused on messaging the value of natural gas.
