Last week, APGA staff spoke at the American Society of Gas Engineers (ASGE) Technical Conference. The presentation was titled, “Battling Electrification from a Gas Utility Sector,” and the discussion centered on all the challenges facing those in the natural gas supply chain, which includes both APGA and ASGE members. There was some time spent talking about Congress and its actions on energy policy, recognizing that at this point in 2022 since it is an election year, not much may happen. However, much is occurring with regulations, which was also discussed, specifically the challenges with the Department of Energy’s appliance efficiency rulemakings. The presentation also shared on the need for more infrastructure to move natural gas to APGA member cities and how recent actions by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and the Council on Environmental Quality are not helping expand pipeline capacity. Gas appliance manufacturers comprise the majority of ASGE’s membership, but control manufacturers and industrial equipment builders also benefit from being a part of this industry group. APGA staff appreciated the chance to represent the members at this event. There were great conversations on potential collaboration with others in the natural gas supply chain.
