On April 14, APGA staff participated in the Clear Path X Social Media Drill, which is part of this year’s Clear Path series. The Department of Energy (DOE), Office of Cybersecurity, Energy Security and Emergency Response (CESER) leads this annual, all-hazards energy security and resilience exercise. Through the Clear Path series, energy sector stakeholders are brought together to enhance policies and procedures, identify areas for collective improvement, and strengthen relationships and cooperation between industry and government partners.
For 2022, the scenario is a multi-hazard (severe weather-hurricanes), multi-regional (Atlantic and Gulf coasts) event. The drill used a virtual, interactive exercise that offered participants the opportunity, through a simulated social media tool, to work together and practice delivering credible, actionable messaging to inform the public, like what would happen during a real hurricane. The next part of Clear Path X will be a Functional Exercise this May 10-12. At this time, players will respond to the hurricane scenario in a simulated environment that will test capabilities, especially at the tactical resource level.
APGA staff and members participating with DOE in Clear Path X gain valuable experience, as this is the principal forum for enhancing the energy sector’s ability to work together in response to catastrophic incidents, focusing on roles, responsibilities, plans, and procedures and stressing interdependencies between multiple critical infrastructure sectors.
