APGA Engages on Green-e Standard

APGA engaged the Center for Resource Solutions (CRS) last week by sending feedback for the open comment period for the “Green-e Renewable Energy Standard for Canada and the United States.” CRS requested feedback on proposed changes to this Standard, which defines high quality renewable energy sources eligible for certified sales. Through efforts, like this Standard, APGA is hopeful stakeholders will consider biogas or renewable natural gas (RNG) more.

APGA members recognize the environmental benefits of RNG and the demand by some Americans for a cleaner fuel. The main point made in the comments was to include farm-based biogas systems as eligible renewable energy resources. APGA’s members are located in 38 states across the U.S. To utilize RNG in their systems, feedstocks should not be limited. Moreover, many public natural gas utilities are in communities that are very near farms, so APGA urged the Standard to recognize the environmental benefits of farm-based biogas systems. Including these practices is a win-win by taking waste product and reusing it.
