APGA Comments on Industrial Decarbonization

By Stuart Saulters posted 03-10-2022 11:20 AM

Last week, APGA submitted comments to the Department of Energy (DOE) responding to their request for information (RFI) on industrial decarbonization. The stated goal of the RFI is, “to solicit feedback on what approaches, subsectors, cross-cutting challenges, or other focus areas are best suited to accelerate the development, demonstration and adoption of GHG-reducing technologies within the industrial sector.”

Many APGA members provide natural gas service to small industrial customers, with which they often work closely to ensure their continued presence in the community. It is true that the key industrial sectors of iron, steel, and cement, however, typically are not served by natural gas distributors but are connected directly to the interstate and intrastate natural gas pipeline system. Though these comments provided are valuable for any conversation on all industrial decarbonization. In the feedback submitted, APGA stressed support for a clean and efficient American industrial sector, specifically acknowledging that electrification is not a sound energy policy for any sector.
