In late October, APGA, as part of the Clean Hydrogen Future Coalition (CHFC), joined with others in penning a letter to a few of the policymakers leading the debate on the bipartisan infrastructure package and the budget reconciliation text. This communication highlighted the importance of hydrogen in achieving America’s environmental goals and acknowledged the need for more research and development (R&D) to ensure the existing local distribution company workforce and pipeline infrastructure are part of the clean energy future. In addition to the CHFC, 30 other organizations, including energy companies, labor unions, utilities, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), equipment suppliers, and project developers, joined the letter, showing a diverse group all committed to decreasing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, with hydrogen playing a role in that mission.
While the path for both the bipartisan infrastructure bill and the budget reconciliation legislation are uncertain, this communication to leaders on Capitol Hill was still critical to reiterate the need for funding for research, development, and commercial deployment of hydrogen. CHFC and the other signers are hopeful Congress will maintain draft provisions in text currently being debated and will continue to do more to enact federal policy mechanisms to facilitate the rehabilitation or buildout of transport and storage infrastructure to make certain that the hydrogen economy scales at the rate necessary to meet full emissions reduction potential.
