APGA Supports Bipartisan Infrastructure Solutions

By Stuart Saulters posted 07-01-2021 10:15 AM

In June, APGA was asked to sign a statement encouraging Congress to pursue bipartisan infrastructure solutions. The Business Roundtable and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce were leading this effort, and they were hopeful that public natural gas utilities would add their name to a letter telling Congress that America’s energy providers: support the continuance of bipartisan negotiations, built on the progress embodied in these bipartisan proposals, targeted to the nation’s needs; and, do not support a move to consider an infrastructure bill under the Senate budget reconciliation process, which would almost certainly foreclose the possibility of a bipartisan deal.

There could be significant impacts to public natural gas utilities in ongoing infrastructure legislation negotiations, including efforts to electrify end use applications for homes, businesses, and industry. In a bipartisan way, Congress should work together to achieve all-of-the-above policies to ensure America’s clean energy future. As well, any legislation should allow for improved processes, such as permitting reform, to build pipelines and other infrastructure. With this statement signed by APGA and many others, hopefully, Congress will take this historic opportunity and Democrats and Republicans can come together to enact policies for the good of the country.
