APGA Urges Beneficial Changes to Texas NGV Grant Program

By Stuart Saulters posted 04-01-2021 08:52 AM

As part of a strong coalition, APGA recently wrote to members of the Texas House of Representatives asking to expand eligibility of the Texas Natural Gas Vehicle (NGV) Grant Program to include pre-owned trucks. Right now, this critical program incentivizes replacing old, dirty diesel trucks with new medium and heavy-duty, clean-burning NGVs.

Both the elected officials in Texas and industry want to reduce further greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the transportation sector, and an easy way to do this is to expand eligibility to pre-owned natural gas medium and heavy-duty trucks. As Texas fleets cycle out their natural gas trucks, the legislation being considered will allow those clean burning trucks to continue to be safely used in the state. Also, if passed and signed by the Governor, Texas may be the first state to allow grants for pre-owned natural gas trucks, and hopefully, others will follow. To see the coalition letter, click here.
