APGA Joins Homebuilders and Others in Letter to Commerce Secretary

By Stuart Saulters posted 04-01-2021 08:51 AM

In early March, APGA was asked by partners representing housing and commercial construction, real estate finance and sales, as well as affordable housing advocates and others to sign a letter requesting the newly confirmed Commerce Secretary, Gina Raimondo, examine the lumber supply chain, identify the causes for high prices and supply constraints, and seek immediate remedies that will increase production.

While not directly part of the business of APGA members, public natural gas utilities benefit from a robust American housing and commercial sector. The current prices of lumber are significantly impacting this part of the U.S. economy, threatening recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as housing affordability. Home and business owners prefer natural gas, so to ensure continued use in new, safe, and affordable housing, Secretary Raimondo and her team need to address skyrocketing lumber prices and chronic shortages.
