APGA Staff and Members Participate in LIHEAP Briefing

Today, APGA staff and several member utilities supported a briefing on the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Project (LIHEAP). The focus of this event was to educate congressional staff on the importance of this program. LIHEAP provides many customers in APGA member service territories the money they need for their energy bills, so the association works to support full funding of LIHEAP, as well as stays engaged in conversations on Capitol Hill to ensure the program is run efficiently.

With potential COVID-19 relief legislation moving through Congress in the upcoming weeks, there is an opportunity for additional funding to be provided for LIHEAP. Senator Reed (D-R.I.), who is a LIHEAP champion, states: “State energy officials have reported that they are ready to move additional LIHEAP funds quickly and have identified a need for an additional $10 billion to serve 11 million families, including newly-eligible households.” To learn more about LIHEAP, please visit the National Energy and Utility Affordability Coalition website at www.neuac.org. This is a group APGA and many other energy trade associations support.
