APGA Signs on to LIHEAP Support Letter

This week, APGA, in collaboration with the National Energy and Utility Affordability Coalition (NEUAC), signed on to a letter being sent to the Congressional Appropriations Committees. Through this effort, the signers hope to encourage full funding of the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), which is a critical, life-saving program that targets and serves the most vulnerable including older Americans, individuals with disabilities, and children. With all that is facing our country, utility debt grows, and the threat of energy insecurity looms for millions of American families that could afford their bills just one year ago. Many hardworking people lost one or more sources of income because of the pandemic and now, are at risk of utility disconnection.

LIHEAP has reliably and effectively stabilized families and provided consistent benefits that relieve the energy burden of those most in need for nearly 40 years. With Congress fulfilling this request to fully fund the program, LIHEAP will continue to support those in need of energy assistance. There is still an opportunity for utilities to sign on to this letter. Click here for more details. As well, NEUAC organizes an “Action Day,” which is an event to inform Congress of the importance of LIHEAP. APGA will be participating and welcomes members to be a part as well. More details on this will be available as they are confirmed.
