On July 19, APGA joined a number of other trade associations in submitting an amici curiae brief to the U.S. Supreme Court in support of the Mountain Valley Pipeline, LLC’s (MVP) emergency request to vacate the stays of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit pertaining to the construction of its pipeline.Through the brief, APGA and the other associations argued that emergency relief is required to help ensure an affordable and reliable supply of natural gas to millions of Americans that depend on the fuel to heat their homes, businesses, and water; cook their food; and dry their clothes. While APGA members will not be directly served by the MVP, the additional supply capacity that it will provide will help alleviate existing stressors to an already over-prescribed pipeline system. APGA believes that MVP and similar natural gas pipeline projects are critical to keeping energy costs low for consumers. The American Gas Association (AGA), American Petroleum Institute (API), U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Interstate Natural Gas Association of America (INGAA), and the Natural Gas Supply Association (NGSA) also joined the brief. A copy of the brief is available online here. For questions on this article, please contact Renée Lani of APGA staff by phone at 202-464-0836 or by email at rlani@apga.org.
