APGA Encourages Green Building Advisory Committee to Leverage Natural Gas to Achieve Goals

On April 18, APGA staff provided verbal comments during the General Services Administration’s (GSA) Green Building Advisory Committee (GBAC) meeting. At the meeting, APGA urged the committee to utilize natural gas and other low-carbon fuels such as renewable natural gas (RNG) and hydrogen (H2) to help address the administration’s decarbonization goals.

GSA is an independent agency responsible for managing the federal government’s building stock. Nationwide, the federal government owns and leases over 376.9 million square feet of space in 9,600 buildings in more than 2,200 communities nationwide. The GBAC is tasked with reducing emissions from these buildings, to enable the federal government to act as a leader in building decarbonization.

Many APGA members provide the natural gas necessary to fuel federal buildings across the country, whether it be office buildings, post offices, military bases, or VA hospitals.

It is important for these communities to be engaging with the federal government, especially if any significant changes may be taking place in any given service territory.
