APGA Asks EPA Not to Hinder RNG/H2 Production with New Regs

On December 23, APGA submitted comments in response to the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) notice of proposed rulemaking pertaining to potential future regulations addressing pyrolysis and gasification units. Through the comments, APGA asked EPA to ensure that any regulatory changes impacting these technologies do not impede the production of renewable natural gas (RNG) or hydrogen (H2).

Pyrolysis and gasification technologies can be used to produce RNG and H2, fuels that help to lower the carbon footprint of natural gas. Because these fuels are consistent with the President’s climate directives and leverage the valuable and existing natural gas infrastructure and workforce, APGA urged EPA to avoid regulations that could hinder their development. APGA’s comments also support those of the American Gas Association (AGA), which request a small modification to help EPA better collect information on whether a unit produces syngas that might be further processed into RNG or H2.

A copy of APGA’s comments is available here.
