On November 12, APGA submitted comments to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in response to its draft strategic plan for 2022-2026. Through our comments, APGA urged the agency to leverage public utilities, especially the workforce and existing assets, and natural gas more broadly to support its goals.
EPA’s strategic plan outlines several broad goals, including its plans to tackle the climate crisis. Of note, the agency plans to “[a]gressively reduce the emissions of greenhouse gases from all sectors while increasing energy and resource efficiency.” Accordingly, APGA outlined how community-owned natural gas utilities have been doing their part to support methane emissions reductions at the local distribution level, as well as how natural gas technologies play a vital role in reducing emissions in both the building and transportation sectors, especially when paired with sustainable fuels like renewable natural gas (RNG) and hydrogen.
