APGA Asks for FERC Support in Continued Efforts to Address Uri

On October 15, APGA sent a letter to Richard Glick, Chairman of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). Through this letter, APGA indicated disappointment with FERC’s lack of a concrete path forward to protect American natural gas consumers from future price spikes that may result from extreme weather and asked for FERC’s support of APGA’s efforts to develop a solution.
Last month, FERC staff and representatives from the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) presented the preliminary findings and recommendations of their joint inquiry into the February 2021 cold weather grid operations, which were silent on the historic price spikes that accompanied Winter Storm Uri. Shortly following that presentation, all four FERC Commissioners appeared before the Senate Energy & Natural Resources Committee for a hearing, during which some senators inquired of FERC’s response to the February events. Again, no solid path forward was identified, but the Chairman did note that investigations into the high prices are still underway.
APGA has continued to engage with the federal government in a number of different ways to support members that have been impacted by February’s events. Accordingly, through the letter, APGA asks for FERC’s support as APGA works with Congress on potential solutions. A copy of the letter is available
