On July 7, APGA submitted a letter to the Department of Energy (DOE) in response to its request for information pertaining to its Hydrogen Energy Earthshot initiative that would enable low cost, clean hydrogen at scale. Through the letter, APGA indicated its support of DOE’s efforts to better understand how hydrogen can lower the carbon footprint of natural gas in the United States, while also creating jobs and providing benefits to disadvantaged communities.

APGA asked that DOE prioritize its efforts and funding on projects that allow for the continued use of existing natural gas pipeline infrastructure to deliver hydrogen to various end-use markets. The letter also indicated the importance of developing uniform codes and standards to ensure safe and reliable transportation and direct-use applications with varying blends of hydrogen.
