On June 4, APGA joined a coalition of 19 trade associations—including the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, American Gas Association, and National Association of Manufacturers – in requesting an extension to the deadline for the Office of Management and Budget’s (OMB) request for comment on the technical support document that underlies the interim values recently set for the social cost of carbon (SCC), methane (SCM), and nitrous oxide (SCN).
The technical support document, which was released in February in response to Executive Order 13,990, outlines monetary values for how the administration values the release of a given greenhouse gas (GHG). These values have historically been utilized in cost-benefit analyses of certain rulemakings, such as the Department of Energy’s minimum appliance efficiency rules, and some advocates are pushing for them to be applied more broadly moving forward in all aspects of the federal government’s decision-making, such as permitting, purchasing, and other rulemakings. APGA plans to respond to this public comment opportunity, but has not yet received a response to the extension request.
A copy of the letter requesting a comment deadline extension is available
