APGA Supports Proposed Rules for Fair Access to Financial Services

On January 4, APGA submitted a letter to the Department of the Treasury’s Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) in response to its proposed rulemaking intended to ensure fair access to financial services. Through its letter, APGA highlighted the importance of the natural gas industry to the U.S. economy and indicated its support for the non-discriminatory banking practices that OCC intended to codify.

If finalized, the rule would ensure that all lawful businesses, especially those vital to our nation’s economy such as natural gas-related entities, would be accorded a fair opportunity to have its risks assessed by large banking institutions for product and service eligibility. Consequently, the proposed rule would prohibit large banks from issuing blanket, categorical restrictions that could deny a business access to banking services without considering its individual risk.
