During the APGA Research Foundation (RF) Spotlight, Dr. Johnson will present on GTI Energy (GTI) Utilization Technology Development (UTD) research that looks at the many cooking Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) health claims being made in the media and by other research organizations. Using state-of-the-art commercial and residential cooking laboratories plus real-world simulations, Dr. Johnson has been able to analyze and scrutinize the claims to see if they hold up (hint: no need to get rid of your gas stove just yet!). The GTI team was able to take the data and knowledge learned in the labs and create common sense responses, based on fact and thoughtful analysis, that can be taken back to your communities and customers to make sure the accurate IAQ story is being told. GTI has also identified additional improvements that can be made to the design and function of modern cook stoves. The RF works closely with GTI and has helped fund UTD indoor air quality studies as well as others that will improve appliance efficiency and safety. Dr. Frank Johnson, PhD, is an Institute Engineer at GTI and works on many projects including IAQ, foodservice and agriculture issues. His work has led to multiple patents and new appliances being developed, tested, and brought to market. For questions, please contact Todd Brady at tbrady@apga.org or at 202-370-6211.
