Updated Emissions Calculator from GTI Energy CMR

GTI Energy’s Center for Methane Research (CMR) has updated the emissions calculator that was originally developed several years ago. The updates have streamlined the look and made it easier to understand and use. Emissions factors and calculations have also been updated where needed.

The calculator focuses on estimating emissions from mains and services, and compares three methods of calculating those emissions on an annual basis. The calculation methods include the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program (GHGRP, Subpart W) emission factors, the Greenhouse Gas Inventory (GHGI) emission factors, and a calculation method used by EPA called total equivalent leaks (TEL).

The calculator can be found at https://cmrleakcalc.gti.energy/ ,or by accessing the "Materials" tab on the CMR public website at https://www.gti.energy/cmr/.

The CMR collects and analyzes existing data on methane emission trends and atmospheric concentration levels. It also facilitates and conducts new scientific investigations, with an emphasis on atmospheric methane concentration and chemistry as well as methane radiative physics.

The APGA Research Foundation is instrumental in funding end use and operational research and development projects through APGA member volunteer contributions.
