APGA Participates in LIHEAP Action Day

Recently, APGA staff joined the National Energy and Utility Affordability Coalition (NEUAC) at their event, the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) Action Day, in Washington, D.C. More than 200 advocates from across the country traveled to Capitol Hill to share the importance of sufficient funding for the program for fiscal year 2026. APGA is a member of NEUAC and works closely with its staff throughout the year to offer the perspective of public gas systems and coordinate advocacy efforts.

Thousands of public gas customers across the country rely on funding from LIHEAP, a critical, life-saving program that serves American families and individuals in all 50 states plus U.S. territories and tribes. The program is funded via the congressional appropriations process and offers direct financial assistance to the most vulnerable Americans to use on their utility bills to ensure their energy needs are met.

Congress recently passed a government funding package known as a Continuing Resolution (CR), a stopgap measure that allows the government to continue operating at levels agreed to for the previous fiscal year. The CR will fund the government until September 30, the end of the fiscal year.

Appropriators in both Chambers have now turned their focus to the 12 regular spending bills that must be passed in order to fund the government in 2026. Consider adding your utility to NEUAC’s All Parties Letter in support of an appropriation for LIHEAP at its maximum authorized level. Click here for more information.
