APGA Participates in Industry PSMS Survey

By Erin Kurilla posted 22 days ago

Today, APGA distributed an invitation to an industry-wide Pipeline Safety Management System (PSMS) survey, which went to the primary contacts for APGA member systems. The purpose of the Industry PSMS Team is to enhance safe pipeline operations by supporting pipeline operators in the adoption and implementation of American Petroleum Institute (API) Recommended Practice (RP) 1173: Pipeline Safety Management Systems. APGA encourages all members to participate in the survey.

This year, the Industry PSMS Team has developed two versions of the survey based on an operator’s implementation status. For those still considering, just starting out on their journeys, or less than three years into implementation, you will be asked to complete the “New to PSMS Survey” questions, which are focused on leadership commitment, gap analysis and closure, and element prioritization. For those three or more years into implementation, you will be asked to complete the “Seasoned Implementer” questions on management review, maturity evaluations, and performance improvements. Participation in a particular set of questions will not be communicated externally, and every operator should be able to complete one set of questions regardless of where your system stands on PSMS.

Take the survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2024PSMSWU. Responses to the PSMS Industry Survey are due on November 22, 2024. The responses to this survey will be received, anonymized, and aggregated by APGA before being made available to the Industry PSMS team. The survey questions are identical to those being completed by investor owned distribution companies, gas transmission pipelines, and hazardous liquid pipelines. If you are a member of multiple associations, please be sure to coordinate internally and only respond once.
