On December 1, APGA joined the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s coalition letter to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) concerning the selection of candidates for a peer review panel that will undertake an external review of the draft “Report on the Social Cost of Greenhouse Gases: Estimates Incorporating Recent Scientific Advancements.”

Social cost of greenhouse gases (SC-GHG) estimates are used throughout federal regulatory agency actions, including by the Department of Energy (DOE) and the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA). Assigning SCC-GHG to regulatory actions has resulted in hundreds of billions of dollars of estimated benefits, along with significant costs for compliance. Peer review panels can be an important tool in “securing public trust in scientific information, analysis, and its real-world application” and “it important to have an impartial and qualified peer review panel review the latest draft social cost of greenhouse gases (SCC-GHG) estimates.”
