The Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration’s (PHMSA) Safety and Modernization Grant Program has now been posted. The grant program is exclusively for publicly and community owned natural gas systems. It will award nearly $200 million for five years for operators “to repair, rehabilitate, or replace their natural gas distribution pipeline system or portions thereof, or to acquire equipment to (1) reduce incidents and fatalities and (2) avoid economic losses.”

Operators have 60 days to apply for this program, and the application period will close on July 25. The application can be found at www.grants.gov/web/grants/view-opportunity.html?oppId=340638.
