APGA Holds First Grant Program Webinar

This week, APGA hosted its first webinar for its members on the newly created Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) grant program included in the recent infrastructure package. The program will fund the repair, replacement, and rehabilitation of existing pipeline infrastructure, in addition to certain equipment purchases. Participation in the program is limited to municipally or community-owned utilities.

The legislation gives PHMSA 180 days to issue a Notice of Funding Opportunity to begin the application process. While there is a lot to learn and discuss with PHMSA prior to that notice being issued, the webinar allowed APGA staff to guide members through the basic structure of the program. There was a great question and answer session that allowed APGA to talk about the issues that our members are considering as they think about potential uses for the funding.

There will be a lot more to come from APGA on this program as the process unfolds, but we encourage you to watch the recording if you were not able to join us for the live event. We had over 100 people on the webinar and covered a lot of frequently asked initial questions. The recording is available on APGA’s website here, along with our slides and a link to the text of the bill.
