Senate Committee Advances Willie Phillips Nomination to FERC

On Tuesday, the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources met to consider several of the President’s nominations, including Mr. Willie Phillips. Phillips has been nominated to serve as the fifth member of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).

Phillips received bipartisan support from Senators on the committee, and his nomination was passed by a voice vote. The next step is consideration on the floor, where he will need to receive votes from a simple majority of the full Senate in order to be confirmed.

APGA joined a coalition of other industry groups to send a letter to Senate leadership on Wednesday urging them to schedule a vote on Phillips’ nomination as soon as possible. The letter emphasized the importance of FERC’s work to the energy industry and expressed the importance of having the full commission seated in order for it to function well.

A copy of the letter is available here.
