APGA Reinforces NGV and RNG Benefits to House Committee

On May 5, the Energy Subcommittee of the House Energy and Commerce Committee held a hearing titled, “The Clean Future Act: Driving Decarbonization of the Transportation Sector.” The hearing focused on several legislative measures the committee is considering to promote investment in domestic manufacturing of electric vehicles (EVs) and EV charging station infrastructure.

APGA submitted a statement urging the committee to provide a level playing field for all clean vehicles fuels, rather than pursuing electrification as the sole path to achieving climate goals. The statement specifically pointed out the role natural gas has already played in reducing U.S. greenhouse gas emissions and asked the committee to keep in mind the potential benefits of supporting and investing in natural gas vehicle (NGV) technology and renewable natural gas (RNG) production. The statement also highlighted how NGV technology could help fill an important gap by reducing emissions in difficult to electrify applications like long-haul and regional trucking, transit buses, refuse trucks, and high horsepower off-road equipment.

A copy of APGA’s submission for the hearing record is available here.
